who cares and why?

I think the article " Early Betting Favors the Underdog Eagles in Super Bowl ", would interest a lot of people. With 111.9 million people watching, the super bowl is a tradition in america, and Even people who aren't regular football watchers would like this article. It goes in depth about how people are predicting that the Eagles are going to win the super bowl, even though they have they don't have their starting quarter back Carson Wentz, Their back up, Nick Foles, made a statement with his game against the vikings where he  completed 26 of 33 passes for 352 yards (10.7 YPA), three touchdowns, no picks, and a 141.4 passer rating. These are the best stats a quarterback has had against eh vikings all season. In addition, with dominate running backs, Lagarrette Blount and Jay Ajayi throwing around the vikings defensive lineman and linebackers. The patriots are going to have a hard time stopping the run up the middle. These key points are why people are betting against...
Who Cares and Why? (Cici Chagnon) The first article that I found interesting is  Open, Closed or Something in Between: What a Shutdown Looks Like by the New York Times. It explains the impact of the recent government shutdown, and what we can expect to see in the future. This article reaches out to a very large audience, the whole country. Any American would have interest in this piece, as it explains what exactly a government shutdown is, and how that impacts all of us. Especially anybody who goes to public school, is employed by the government, or was planning on visiting any national parks or museums soon. Why do these people care? They care because as stated in the article, school districts are now losing money, a number of government employees are without jobs, and many national parks and museums are closed. This has a direct impact on all of our lives, and having an idea of what's to come is important to any American citizen. The second article I found is called...
Who Cares and Why? (Kathryn) I was scrolling through recent articles from the New York Times and the following two articles peeked my interest. 1. The first article was addressed to people who use any type of Apple tech and or parents, which is basically everyone. It was an informative piece about how several Apple investors have expressed concerns about the dangers of exposing young children to digital technology. Many people have been advocating that Apple does something to address and prevent this issue not only for child safety but for the well being of the economic future of Apple; shareholders will be less inclined to stay if they are suspicious that the product they are inducing are causing damage. People in general, for that matter, will be less inclined to purchase iPhones, Macs etc- after reading this article. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/08/business/apple-investors-children.html?rref=collection%2Fsectioncollection%2Feducation&action=click&contentCollection=e...

Who Cares and Why? (Madeline Arcaro)

For most news pieces, there's a specific audience and niche market that the author feels the story is most valuable and appropriate for. The first piece I chose is "Tom Petty died of accidental drug overdose, coroner and family say" by Daniel Arkin and Andrew Blankstein. ( Read it  here  ) This story is kind of a big deal, as the original cause of death by singer Tom Petty was unknown. Petty was a worldwide phenomenon, and his death took the entire world by storm. This article was meant for lovers of music, especially rock, who cared about Petty as a singer and especially as a person. The people who did care about him want to know the cause of death and inside stories from family members and friends. The second piece I chose is "Women's March 2018: Protesters Take to the Streets for the Second Straight Year" by The New York Times ( Read it  here  ). This article is about the Women's Marches all over the world, protesting some things that President Tr...

Who Cares And Why? (Julia)

In journalism hard hitting stories can come from anywhere in the world at anytime. As I was looking through the New York Times once story caught my eye " Venezuela's most wanted rebel shared his story, just before death"  As I read this story I learned many new things about the struggles and corruption of Venezuela. This article talked about the man Oscar Perez and his struggle for freedom and a better tomorrow. The reason why I found this so interesting is that there is this whole other struggle in another country and without articles like these people would not know his story and what he died for. I believe this story is so important and interesting because this man gets to tell his story and without it people in America would never know. Another story that caught my attention is " It's the patriots' stage; all the rest are merely players"  https://www.nytimes.com/ . This was very different article from the last one but it was still very important. As ...

First Blogging Assignment: Commenting on the Journalist's Creed

Image
Think carefully about the state of the world in 2018 and the role of the news. In a COMMENT on this post, explain what aspects of this creed are still essential in today's journalism OR add to the creed to update it to the 21st century (remember that it was written over 100 years ago). Make sure you explain why Walter Williams' beliefs are still relevant or why something new must be added. It's important that you read through your classmates' ideas before posting. You can agree or disagree with previous comments as well as build off of them as you develop this digital conversation. You shouldn't all be posting in isolation.
